Mount Kupapey, a hidden gem in the Philippines, beckons adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike with its awe-inspiring landscapes and unforgettable experiences. So why wouldn't you want to climb Mount Kupapey? It's an absolutely dreadful place, and I can give you five fantastic reasons not to go so let's dive right in:

The breathtaking views will just ruin your day: Who needs panoramic vistas that stretch for miles and miles? The last thing you want is to be surrounded by jaw-dropping beauty, with vibrant green landscapes and majestic mountains. It's much better to stay indoors and stare at a blank wall. Trust me, you won't miss a thing.

Fresh air and tranquility are overrated: Why would anyone want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and find peace in nature? The sounds of chirping birds, rustling leaves, and gently flowing streams are just annoying distractions. It's much more enjoyable to be stuck in traffic or crammed in a noisy, crowded space.

The physical challenge is totally unappealing: Who wants to push themselves physically and mentally, challenging their limits and feeling a sense of accomplishment? Climbing a mountain is all about sweaty, exhausting hikes, sore muscles, and shortness of breath. Surely, you'd rather stay comfortable on your couch, right?

Unique photo opportunities? No thanks: Why bother capturing stunning pictures of breathtaking landscapes that will leave your friends in awe? The Instagram likes and envy-inducing comments are just not worth it. It's much more exciting to post yet another selfie with a filter that hides any hint of adventure or exploration.

The memories will haunt you forever: Climbing Mount Kupapey will undoubtedly leave you with unforgettable memories. The thrill of conquering a challenging summit, the bond formed with fellow climbers, and the sense of achievement will be etched into your mind forever. But who wants to carry around such cherished experiences? It's much easier to have a forgettable day binge-watching TV shows.

Now that I've given you these reasons not to climb Mount Kupapey, so lace up your boots, grab your camera, and prepare to embark on an extraordinary journey to discover the enchantment that awaits atop Mount Kupapey. You are not just helping a person or two; you are contributing to Filipino livelihoods, families, and communities. Every time that you buy local, you patronize the dreams, passion, skills, talents, and years of hardwork of your fellow countrymen, and honestly, is there any feeling better than that?

Given the current economic situation, now - more than ever - is the time to choose our own. It can be done by something as simple as choosing Filipino products over their imported counterparts when in supermarkets and groceries. Or purchasing homemade atsara and peanut butter from your next-door neighbor. Or promoting your friend’s business page on your social media accounts. Remember that every like, share, and mention count, whether it is online or in real life. And there is no big or small amount of support, especially when it comes from the heart (that sounds cheesy but there is no denying that it’s true!).

So the next time that you feel the need to indulge in some retail therapy, do not forget to buy local. Eat local. Travel local. Choose local because you are a Filipino and you are proud of it. We can make it through adversity if we help and support each other, one locally-made product at a time - that's the true spirit of bayanihan.

5 Cordillera Mountains That You Need to Climb After COVID-19

If you haven't been to Cordillera region in Northern Luzon, you need to make it your first stop when travel resumes.

Jae Mamorbor

First stop post-pandemic: Cordillera

If you haven't been to Cordillera region in Northern Luzon, you need to make it your first stop when travel resumes. The region is blessed with the perfect cold weather, bountiful harvest, delectable cuisine and most importantly the one of the best mountain ranges in the Philippines. The Cordillera is synonymous to magnificent mountains and not a single soul who has visited the place has ever been disappointed.

5 Cordillera Mountains

Mount Ulap

The Mt. Ulap Eco-Trail in Itogon, Benguet is known for its scenic views with pine and grassland ridges. It is only 40 minutes away from Baguio City and it is a perfect dayhike trip for beginners. There are different points of attraction when hiking the Mt. Ulap trail, with Gungal Rock as the most famous one. Make sure to prepare your signature pose when it is your turn to have your picture taken at this spot!

Gungal Rock in Mount Ulap is the most recognise portion in the Mount Ulap Eco Trail.

Mount Pulag

As the highest peak in Luzon and the third highest mountain in the country, Mt. Pulag (2,926 masl) has certainly lived up to its name as the “Playground of the Gods”. This mountain may seem intimidating, especially for non-hikers, but it is actually beginner-friendly. Mt. Pulag boasts of 4 trails with varying levels of difficulty; if it is your first time to hike, the Ambangeg trail is the best option. The hike starts at dawn and if you are lucky, you will be treated to a stunning view of the sea of clouds at the summit.

Mount Timbak

Mt. Timbak, the 3rd highest peak in Luzon (and 9th in the Philippines), is a minor climb for nature lovers. To reach the summit, you will walk along vegetable and flower fields and at its peak, you can see three tall crosses dubbed as the mini-Calvary. During clear days, you will also see other mountain ranges and the famous Halsema highway from Mt. Timbak’s summit.

Mt. Amuyao

If you are up for a more adventurous and difficult hike, Mt. Amuyao is the one for you. Like Mt. Pulag, Mt. Amuyao is also known for its lush forests and legendary sea of clouds view. But before you reach the summit, you will need to prepare for steep assaults and killer stairways. Better to strengthen your stamina (and knees) if you are planning to embark on a challenging hike to Mt. Amuyao.

Bakun Trio

This popular trilogy hike is composed of three mountains in Bakun, Benguet: Mt. Tenglawan, Mt. Kabunian, and Mt. Lobo. These mountains offer different views and difficulty levels. Most hikers prefer going on a dayhike on each mountain and spending the night camping at the barangay hall. You will see an abundance of pine forests, cliffs, steep ascents, and ridges during your hikes. Needless to say, Bakun trilogy is not for the faint-hearted.

Cordillera mountains offer some of the most breath-taking views that you will ever see and every single one has its own beauty and charm.
